Pronunciation¶
English pronunciation of the Rosary prayers tends to follow traditional liturgical English (sometimes called "prayer book English").
- "Thee" and "thy" are pronounced with a soft "th" as in "this" (voiced).
- Final "-ed" in words like "blessed", "hallowed" is often pronounced as a separate syllable: /ˈblɛs.ɪd/, /ˈhæl.oʊ.ɪd/.
- "Amen" is /ɑːˈmɛn/ or /eɪˈmɛn/ in American English.
- Stress is usually on the important words in each phrase for meditative flow.
Many English speakers use a slightly elevated, clear diction when praying the Rosary aloud.
