Here&#8217;s a summary of the sections.<\/p>\n<p>Show your Stuff<br \/>\n+ self explanatory<\/p>\n<p>Build up your Islands (foreign language is like swimming&#8230;)<br \/>\n+ linking, segue to your island<br \/>\n+ baiting, get the audience to your island<br \/>\n+ each island should be small, practical, and interesting<br \/>\n+ I must create the island myself<br \/>\n+ apply memorization techniques for the island<br \/>\n+ the island must be muscle memory to be effective (create them in memrise)<\/p>\n<p>Shifting Gears<br \/>\n+1. Sidestep and feign indifference<br \/>\n+2. Segue to new topic<br \/>\n+3. Introduce new topic<br \/>\n+4. Develop topic (island)<br \/>\n+5. Connect back to the speaker (ask question on the new topic)<br \/>\n+* alternatively, first get information by redirecting their question back at them<\/p>\n<p>Simplify, Simplify, Simplify<br \/>\n+ use the simplest words (the most automatic words)<br \/>\n+ use short simple sentences<\/p>\n<p>Breaking Away (from English grammar)<br \/>\n+ use only the target language grammar<br \/>\n+ know the grammar automatically<br \/>\n+ know as many grammar structures as possible<br \/>\n+ Transmitting vs Translation, transmit meaning in proper grammar structure<br \/>\n+ Rehearse different topics with the same grammar statement (no lo quiero, no lo hablo)<\/p>\n<p>Embellish It<br \/>\n+ purple prose: add parenthetical elements, rhetorical questions, adverbs and adjectives<br \/>\n+ use idiomatic expressions, add islands (seduce the audience)<br \/>\n+ practice!
